Aspire Jobs are delighted to be working exclusively with our client who are a successful, long established catering business based near Southbourne.
Established for 20 years, they supply c 2800 school meals per day to schools throughout the BCP geographical area. With a production facility and small offices, they have a close knit, hard-working team who all strive to provide a superb service to local schools.
Now looking to create a new role of Production/Logistics Manager to work very closely with the 2 owners of the business as well as their Operations Manager.
The Production/Logistics Manager role is one of a production management exercise. You will be managing a small team of Chefs and Catering Assistants to turn raw materials into products that are then delivered to schools ready to be cooked. This is a very process driven, structured environment for a reason. Meals are prepared over a three-day cycle. It’s essential that the whole process runs smoothly. One thing out of sync will affect everything else.
Whilst they work Sunday-Friday, they are flexible on hours for the right person. However, this is a full-time role and will see you working the hours needed to get the job done. Fridays are their quietest day. Ideally you should live within a 30-minute commute of their base near Southbourne as you may be called in at short notice if there is an issue (although this is very rare).
The successful Production/Logistics Manager will
* Have previous staff management experience and be a good leader of people
* Be prepared to be hands-on and roll up sleeves and help out when needed
* Have good computer literacy, including Excel
* Be numerate with good Maths and mental arithmetic
* Be an excellent communicator
* Be able to take a “helicopter” view of the production line, spotting any issues before they arise
* Have experience of dealing with and negotiating with suppliers
* Be able to manage an intense, time rigid process ensuring that the team all do their jobs in the right order
* Ideally have a catering or logistics background, although this is not essential
* You must be physically fit and capable of lifting up to 15 kilos – no bad backs, thanks!
* Be process and systems driven
The whole culture of the business is informal with a nice vibe. However, drama queens and prima donnas will not be tolerated! As a senior role within the business there is nowhere to hide and so a committed, switched-on attitude is required.
They have some great computerised systems set up that will tell each member of staff exactly how many of each ingredient is needed to produce a finished dish and all orders are based on that system, so it's essential you are computer literate.
