Payroll & Office Administrator

An exciting position has become available for a Payroll bureau & Office Administrator to join our growing Chartered Accountancy practice based in St Helens, Merseyside. The successful candidate will earn up to £25,000 per year full time equivalent dependent on skills, qualifications, and experience.

As well as being able to demonstrate your substantial experience and abilities, you should be able to communicate and provide support to your line manager and colleagues on a regular basis.  We’re looking for someone who is versatile, keen to learn and develop, and meet new challenges.

The role is primarily a full-time one, although there is some flexibility with hours for the right candidate. The salary shown is the full-time equivalent. 

The firm offers a flexible working policy subject to the business need, this includes an early finish on a Friday where preferred and working from home option where appropriate.

Role Requirements

The successful candidate will be responsible to the Office and Payroll Manager of the company working with the heads of multiple departments. Duties, including but not limited to:

Supporting the payroll manager on payroll processes for up to 100 clients with training to be able to take over when payroll manager is off.
General office administration duties.
Willing to be trained and to learn to provide admin support to the Accounts & Tax teams as needed on bespoke IT software systems.
General bookkeeping experience is desirable.
Processing of computerised accounts on Sage 50 is desirable.
Cashbook/bank & Statement reconciliation.
Recording staff holiday/sickness taken.
Experience in credit control and contacting clients in a friendly & helpful manner.
Answering telephone calls from clients and making calls/speaking with clients.
VAT return preparation support is desirable.
Supplier Payments & Queries.
Staff Support role
Order stationery and office consumables as needed.
Other adhoc duties/responsibilities as required.
Candidate skills and qualities

Knowledge of Sage payroll software – preferred (training will be provided if needed) but must have good knowledge and experience of operating multiple payrolls to a high level on an HMRC-approved payroll software
Good knowledge of Excel, Word & Outlook
Strong communication skills
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Able to learn new IT systems when trained
The successful candidate must be trustworthy, honest, willing and capable to learn new skills and systems, have excellent organisational skills, able to control workload efficiently and accurately, demonstrate excellent attention to detail, be careful and attentive, friendly and supportive, a team player, have good communication skills, enjoy new challenges, and a have a good work ethic.
