Legal Counsel – Renewable Energy

Our client is a low-carbon energy project developer with over 15 years' experience working with landowners on the development of multi-megawatt energy projects across the UK.

Due to growth in the business, they are currently looking to recruit a Legal Counsel professional to support their solar & storage project pipeline delivery.

Alongside taking responsibility for consistency and expediency of land lease option agreements, you'll be accountable for ensuring the delivery of high quality, efficient and value-adding legal services in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ambitious growth environment.

The client is seeking a credible and experienced senior legal expert with an excellent understanding of the renewables business and energy sector who will play a key role in the successful delivery of their growth plans.

This role can be based from home, or based in their London office. Staff are encouraged to work autonomously to drive project completion, and are rewarded accordingly.

· Growing, developing, and managing all legal aspects of a multi-disciplined team comprising land, consenting, commercial and construction to deliver the legal services required by the business to meet both strategic and financial objectives.

· Collectively, you'll advise the business on applicable legal and regulatory obligations, identify, and rationalise legal risk and ensure legal input to the internal governance and compliance processes.

· Responsible for multiple land agreements across a portfolio of variable renewable energy technologies

· Implementing initiatives and processes to set standards and reinforce a culture of integrity, quality, responsibility, and ethical behaviour.

· Leading the legal workstreams to integrate new businesses and assets into the business.

· Working collaboratively with key internal stakeholders and colleagues including directors' heads of department, investors and a range of internal and external specialist functions in the delivery of your role.

· Managing external legal advisors (panel law firms and advocates) as appropriate, including appointments, management of service delivery and fees.

Skills and Qualifications

· A qualified solicitor, likely with 5+ years PQE coupled with a solid track record of producing high quality and effective legal advice.

· A working knowledge of project budgets and land agreements.

· Experience of renewable development lifecycle and associated legal risks, management and objectives.

· Good commercial acumen, with proven ability to carry out commercial negotiations to fulfil objectives and agree high value complex deals.

· Ability to build, develop and nurture effective business partnering relationships based on trust, integrity and the delivery of a value-adding legal service, both personally and through your team.

· Strong people management skills, with experience operating within a multi-disciplinary team.

· Highly organised, delivery-focussed and solutions-driven with the ability to comprise and propose imaginative and appropriate solutions and implement innovative business improvements.
